Batman: Arkham City

This week’s biggest new release, Batman: Arkham City, is the followup to what many would say is the best superhero game ever. So does it live up to the expectations and hype that has been building? Yes! And then some. While the Arkham Asylum had some free-roaming elements it was boxed into the asylum, whereas Arkham City would compare to the map size and free-roaming capabilities of the  Spiderman games that were based on the movies. The combat has been enhanced with my personal favorite additions being the double take-down and the triple counter. The flow, the look, the Joker’s reintroduction and tons of side missions have already sucked me into the dark knight’s world and once again set the bar for comic book video games.

Forza Motorsport 4

Forza has always been known for the quality and realism. The latest installment is no exception. The cars look crisp, the scenery is beautiful and even the Kinect functionality wasn’t too shabby. Season play is arranged in a much better way than Forza 3 was. Instead of each week choosing which kind of race you wanted to do and then ending up stuck with it for all the races for that week, now, before each race, it lets you choose between three types of events each giving you a different bonus, whether it’s an extra percentage driver bonus, car bonus, extra credits or a random bonus. Definitely an improvement on an already stellar game series. I applaud your work Turn 10.

A Little Update

Can’t reveal much about the upcoming project, but I can say that our programmers are making lots of progress. It’s really cool to see the pieces coming together. Hopefully we can get some screens, or details soon. For now though, we’ll have to get back to our doodle pads and keep you posted.

Latest Update

Sorry we haven’t been keeping up to date lately. It’s just that… things seem to be getting a little… “sketchy”…

Update 6/11/11

Welcome to Aurora Studios! We’re glad you came to check us out and we hope you will stay up to date with us as we have some really cool things brewing.

Today, the team got together for our first official meeting about Aurora Studios’ upcoming game. A lot of stuff got accomplished in this meeting. Unfortunately we can’t show you guys what we’re working on yet, but soon enough, you will get to view our very first game, and even play it. Until then, we want to introduce ourselves to you.

I am Matt (Legal Chaos). I’m a programmer, as well as the founder of Aurora Studios. I started this company because I love games. As I play the games I have on my shelf though, something has been lacking. I find myself getting very bored with games these days, and as much as I’m into story, can’t even find a recent game that displays a story that is in-depth enough to keep me interested. Games these days focus way too much on the multiplayer aspect of games, whereas that should be a nice add on and not what the game is created on. Developers are also playing it very safe with their games. Games need new mechanics to keep the industry going. This is where Aurora comes in. I’m founding this company for the sole purpose of bringing the industry back to its creative roots. Aurora will create fun, story driven games, with unique mechanics. I want to open up brand new genres. As much as I like shooters, there is only so much that can be done within that genre. It is time for the industry to get creative again.

thenatehills is our Web Monkey. He’ll be who you normally see posting weekly updates, as well as other tidbits about Aurora. He is also in charge of Aurora’s twitter feed. Not only can you come to this site to see what kind of cool stuff we’re creating, but you can also see tweets about what is currently going on in the industry, as well as our lives. thenatehills is also doing some work with audio for our upcoming game.

Grant is our audio specialist. He is in charge of all of the music and sounds you will experience in the game. His work is amazing, I can’t wait to hear what I’ll be listening to as I play through the game.

DreariestComa has been one of my best friends for ages now. We’ve sat through classes together coming up with what we believe to be the next best game. This time, we think we have it right. DreariestComa is the Lead Writer and Director for Aurora Studios’ upcoming game. It is possible DreariestComa will also do some art work for the upcoming game.

Saedrith is an artist. He is working on the cutscenes, as well as in game assets for Aurora Studios’ newest game. This game will be beautiful, and this is who is behind it all.

Well, if you’re still reading, thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We can’t wait to get to know you guys too! Not only are we about creating unique, story driven games, but we are also making it a goal to get to know our fans and actually listen for feedback. Without you, we are nothing, so why not actually listen to what you have to say? It seems as if some companies find this to be a foreign concept, but we want to stick with it. So once our community section is up and going, jump on over there and help us get to know you! Until then, feel free to comment and browse around the page!
